MAKEUP WIPES & WHY YOU SHOULD THROW THEM AWAY

Recently I came across a statement, claiming that makeup wipes are the actual worst. I wondered who would ever say this since they are such a quick and easy way of removing makeup, great to travel with and it feels like you are saving so many steps.

I dived deeper to find out what was this craziness about. Soon enough I was drowning in articles, videos and still it felt like so many people didn't know about this. So how dare I persuade you to throw them away?

1. Environment

Let me start with the most obvious reason, which is that these bad boys, along with cotton pads are a nightmare for out planet. Nobody is asking you to join the zero waste movement, however I still think people should be more conscious about how often they throw stuff away.

I'm talking to you makeup junkies. If you find yourself doing multiple looks a day, whether that is for videos or Instagram, please invest in reusable makeup removing pads. They work just the same, plus you are producing way less waste.

Let's say this doesn't convince you one bit. That's fine, not everybody is as conscious about waste and our planet. Sadly, this is not the only reason.

2. They don't remove makeup at all.

Say what? It's true. Makeup wipes do not remove or dissolve makeup. They simply glide it around your face. Not to mention, how aggressive they are to your skin. Ouch. Apart from lot's of alcohol which they usually contain (that is extremely bad for your skin if you use them on everyday bases), they also contain many unnecessary chemicals. You can do your own research on this if you'd like.

When removing our makeup, we shouldn't pull or scratch. It should be a gentle process, thus products which melt your makeup away are the best! Makeup wipes are very scratchy to our skin with or without all the pressure we apply with our hands.

So if your skincare routine is wiping your makeup off and washing your face, that is NOT ENOUGH. As I mentioned, these things only swipe makeup and do not actually remove it. Simply splashing your face with water afterwards is not okay. Your skin may look clean, but it is not.

To throw away or not to throw away?

I personally think they are very economic for travelling. They save you so much space, and removing makeup is so quick. So travelling could be a good excuse. However, you really shouldn't be using them at home, let alone every day.

If you want more information about skincare tips, I highly recommend checking out James Welsh on Youtube. I find that he gives a lot of useful information that is easy to understand even if you are not an expert on chemicals and skincare ingredients.
